Good afternoon, everybody!!

Mohon maaf anak-anakku... Saya tidak bisa masuk hari ini... Tapi mbak Titin akan memandu kalian belajar bahasa Inggris! Nah, di bawah ini ada beberapa tugas yang bisa kalian kerjakan dengan ketentuan sebagai berikut:

1) Catat semua soal di buku catatan
2) Kerjakan berpasangan
3) Setelah selesai, ajak Mbak Titin membahas serta mengoreksinya
4) Jika masih ada waktu tersisa, Mbak Titin akan menjelaskan kepada kalian materi dari Buku Follow Me Chapter 5....
5) Kalau sudah waktunya pulang, buku dikumpulkan ya... ditaruh di lab bahasa Inggris saja.

ACTIVITY 1

MESSAGE VIA TELEPHONE

Task 1(dicatat ya!)

Mr. Mark : “Hello, Can I speak to Mr. Johnson?”

Secretary : “Who is speaking?”

Mr. Mark : “I’m Mr. Mark from South California Supplier Company?”

Secretary : “ I’m sorry, Mr. Johnson is meeting now? May be you can call again later. ”

Mr. Mark : “Can I leave a message for him?”

Secretary : “Ok, I’ll note your message.”

Mr. Mark : “Please tell him, that his order will be sent tomorrow early, in time before the deadline. From Mr. Mark SCS Company.”

Secretary : “Ok. I’ll tell him your message.”

Mr. Mark : “Thank you.”

Secretary : Welcome“

The bold sentences above are called short messages. Short message contains a sentence or some sentences to someone that we can’t see or speak with her/him directly. We can note/leave a message on the paper, by phone, or by someone else.

Task 1

Write the sentences again, changing each verb from the present

simple to the past simple tense:

1) I wake up at 6.50am when I hear the alarm clock.

2) I jump out of bed and switch it off before it wakes up all the neighbours.

3) I switch on the light and the heater, because it’s cold in my room.

4) I use the bathroom; then look for a clean shirt to wear.

5) I go into the kitchen and put the kettle on.

6) I get dressed and brush my hair.

7) I have a shave and then pack my bag ready for work.

8) The kettle boils so I make a cup of tea; then I watch TV for a few minutes.

9) I open all the curtains in my house and pick up my sandwiches from the fridge.

10) I put on my shoes and coat; then check that I haven’t forgotten anything.

Solve these problems involving time:

1. John left his house at 4 o’clock. It took him ¼ of an hour to walk to the bus stop and he waited 10 minutes for a bus. The bus journey took him ½ an hour. What time did he finish his journey?

2. Alice’s party was to start at 5.30 and last for 2 ½ hours, but it started 15 minutes late. If it still lasted the same amount of time, what time did it finish?

3. Mrs White put her cake in the oven for 50 minutes. It came out at 11.15 a.m. What time did she put it in?
